Installing The IWoc Trio Remote.

These instructions will assist you installing the IWoc Trio remote on your LeMond Bicycle. This process is the same for the Dutch and the Prolog. This is quiet and involved process and is recommended to be completed by a bicycle shop.

  • Remove the front wheel of the bike and install the red brake block spacer that came with the bike. This will prevent the front brake from being pulled and any damage occurring to the front brake or brake pads.

  • Remove the bar end plug and grip from the right side (Non drive side) of the handlebar. Due to the grips we use on the LeMond bikes it can be difficult to remove the grips. The easiest way to remove them is using an air compressor and blowing compressed air under the grip and sliding it

  •  Using a 4mm Hex tool loosen and remove the bolt on the Front (Left) Brake lever. Now using a small pick push the silver button on the outside of the brake. This will allow the brake clamp to fully open and make removing the brake lever from the handlebar easier.

  • Using a 4mm Hex tool Loosen the four stem face plate bolts a few turns. There is no need to remove them fully, just get them loose enough to remove the handlebar. Next using a 5mm hex tool loosen and remove the top cap bolt and remove the top cap. Once the top cap is removed you can remove the handlebar and let it hang in front of the bike. If you are worried about the handlebar scratching the bike you can wrap a rag or cloth around the bar.

  • Using a 2mm hex tool remove the small bolt holding the power button into the frame. Be very careful with this bolt as it is small and fragile. Once removed pull the button out of the frame along with the wiring. 
  • Now the IWoc Trio remote requires two parts to make it work with the Mahle x35+ system. The first is the remote itself. The other is the IWoc Trio Y-Cable, this allows it to connect to the power button. There are three connections on the Y-Cable. Refer to the picture to know which connection goes were.

  • Connect the Longer end of the Y-Cable to the power wire in the frame making sure the arrows on the outside of the connections line up. Next connect the power button to the shorter connection on the Y-Cable again making sure the arrows are aligned.

  • Take the IWoc Trio remote wire and insert it through the headset spacer. Make sure when we reinstall the headset spacer, the IWoc Trio wire and the headlight wire are on the same side (riders left) of the spacer and the brake and shift cable are on the same side (riders right) of the spacer. This will make sure the cables run smoothly and don’t get hung up on anything.

  • Once the IWoc Trio remote wire is though the headset spacer, Insert the wire into the frame at the headset and guide it through the top tube and out of the power button hole on the top of the frame. Use the picture on the left as reference for the cable route.

  • Once the remote wire is through the frame connect it to the longer connection on the Y-Cable. Make sure to align the slot on the female end of the Y-Cable to the notch on the male end of the remote wire. DO NOT FORCE THEM TOGETHER.

  • Now the wires are connected we can start to reassemble the bike. First reinstall the fork into the bike. Slide the steerer tube into the headtube making sure all the wires are being the steerer tube. Once installed it can help to have something under the fork to hold it in place as having both hands free makes the next step easier. A large trash can, or stool can help.

  • Once the fork is installed, now we can install the headset spacer. Slide the spacer over the steerer tube making sure the headlight and Remote wire are going through the rider’s left side of the spacer and the brake and shift housing are going through the rider’s right of the spacer. Once on the steerer tube slide the spacer all the way down to the top of the headtube.

  • Reinstall the handlebar by sliding it onto the steerer tube and line the notches on the spacer to the small holes in the bottom of the handlebar this will help keep the handlebar and spacer aligned. Once installed reinstall the handlebar top cap and tighten the top cap bolt using a 5mm hex tool until it is tight. We will tighten the face plate bolts with the bike on the ground to get the handlebar straight.

  • Once the handlebar is installed reinstall the front brake lever onto the handlebar and then slide the IWoc Trio Remote on the the handlebar. Make sure to leave them loose so you can adjust the angle and position to your liking. Before we go any further press the middle button on the remote to make sure it turns on and works. The best way for the remote to face is so the up arrow increases assistance and the down arrow decreses assistance.

  •  Remove the red brake block from the front brake and Reinstall the front wheel and thru axle. Put the bike on the ground and align the handlebar to make sure the handlebar is straight. The best way to align the handlebar is using the front wheel as a guide against the center of the stem. Once the handlebar is straight tighten then faceplate of the handlebar. Using a 4mm hex tool tighten the bolts in a star pattern evenly. Once they are all snug use a torque wrench tighten all the bolts evenly to 5nm. Once the handlebar is straight and tight now you can

  • Reinstall the bar end plug first and then the grip. The best way to install the grip is to spray isopropyl alcohol on the handlebar and the inside of the grip to help it slide on. Make sure the end of the grip lines up with the bar end plug.

  •  Using two small zip ties, Zip tie the remote wire to the brake lever and brake hose to help keep the cable neat and stop any cable slap.

  • Pull the excess remote wire through the power button hole to keep the cable at the handlebar neat and prevent cable slap. Once all the excess is pulled through you can now feed all the wires into the top tube of the bike. This can be a tricky process as there is a lot of wire and not a huge amount of space. You can fit it all in just make sure not to bend or twist any wire too aggressively.

  •  Now that all the wires are inside the frame you can now reinstall the power button. Once the button is installed use a 2mm hex tool to reinstall the bolt to hold the power button in. Make sure to not overtighten the bolt as it is small and fragile. Also, if the bolt is overtightened the plastic button housing can crack.
